At Autohaus Newport, we specialise in installing, upgrading and troubleshooting campervan electrical systems for new conversions and existing vehicles. We tailor each electrical system to the vehicle and how you'll use it, whether you need a straightforward leisure setup or a more advanced system for extended off-grid travel.

Our services cover both 12V and 230V systems, including mains hook-up, battery chargers, DC-DC charging, leisure batteries, lithium battery upgrades, solar integration, inverters, control panels, lighting, USB outlets and 12V sockets.

Lithium Battery Setup

Upgrading to lithium is not always as simple as replacing an existing leisure battery. The charging and protection equipment must suit lithium battery technology and be correctly configured for the battery being installed.

A lithium setup can include:

• LiFePO4 lithium leisure battery or battery bank

• Lithium-compatible DC-DC charger

• Lithium-compatible 230V mains battery charger

• Solar charge controller configured for lithium charging

• Battery monitoring system

• Appropriate battery isolation

• Correctly rated fuses and circuit protection

• Upgraded battery and charging cables where required

• Busbars and distribution equipment where appropriate

• Correct earthing and chassis bonding

• Reconfiguration or replacement of existing charging equipment

• System testing and configuration

We assess the existing electrical system before carrying out a lithium upgrade. This lets us identify whether existing chargers, solar controllers, cabling, fusing, and other components are suitable or need upgrading.

We also install and configure equipment from trusted manufacturers such as Victron Energy, including battery chargers, DC-DC chargers, solar charge controllers, inverters, inverter/chargers, battery monitors and associated electrical distribution equipment.

For customers with existing electrical systems, we offer fault-finding and electrical upgrades. This may include diagnosing charging issues, replacing outdated equipment, improving cable sizing or circuit protection, re-terminating connections, tidying existing wiring, increasing solar capacity or upgrading the electrical system to support higher loads.

Safety is a priority with every campervan electrical installation. We ensure appropriate cable sizing, fusing, isolation, earthing, component positioning and circuit protection throughout the system.

Where required, we can also arrange electrical inspection and certification for relevant installations, carried out by a suitably qualified engineer.

We can complete campervan electrical work as part of a larger conversion or book it separately for an existing campervan or motorhome at our workshop in Newport, South Wales.
